This year’s edition of the Pilates Empowerment Summit delivered the most diverse and exciting selection of sessions yet. Zoey Trap details some of the highlights at this year’s PES!

The 7th Annual Pilates Empowerment Summit, held over four days in Miami, Florida, was truly the most rewarding yet. The comments we received were overwhelmingly positive, and included descriptors of:

  • "Excellent!"
  • "Great sessions"
  • "Hats off to Peak"
  • "Best yet"
  • "Friendliest event"
  • "Inspiring"
  • "Great education"
  • "So much equipment in all the rooms"

We pride ourselves on planning an event with something for everyone. We have fun and inspiring Master Classes every morning, moving into a 3-hour in-depth workshop, followed by a 2-hour block of classes and workouts, with each day ending with 1.5-hour sessions that run the gamut from stretch to extreme athletics.

This year, our workshops took incisive looks into technique, like Cadillac Clinic with Nancy Hurd, It’s All Relative with Pam Garcia, and Super Advanced Chair with Kathryn Coyle. We had a comprehensive study on special populations with Reformer for Scoliosis with Kathryn Corey and Osteoporosis and Pilates. Want to learn more about group class creation? We hope you got a chance to attend How to Choose Exercises on the Tower with Alycea Ungaro! Looking for new tools to help you approach movement? Spiraldynamik® and Pilates with Michael Fritzke and Ton Voogt gave plenty of new thoughts about movement.

Then there was the kickoff class; Power Circle Mat. This was so beautiful to watch. As a presenter standing at the front, I was amazed at the quiet, the control, the entire group moving as one, and I remember thinking how powerful classical Pilates is when we come together as a community.

Our cocktail reception every year looks at Pilates history and the role of the Elders. This year, we featured Michael and Ton sharing their memories of Romana Kryzanowska in the early days. It was funny, touching, and an excellent reminder of our roots. We were also honored and thrilled by the presence of Steve Giordano that day.

At Peak Pilates®, we are always striving to improve, and always reaching for new ways of helping Pilates instructors grow. We hope you will join us next year for an even larger event in Miami. Save the dates, as our special pre-convention session will be on Thursday May 28, followed by our two-day convention on May 29 and 30. We will then conclude with a full-day post-con on May 31. See you in Miami 2020!
