What types of people attend Spinning® Instructor Certification?
The diversity is remarkable! This is something that has always captivated me about the Spinning program. The philosophy is one that attracts people from every corner of the world, from every background imaginable, and from a range of experiences. But there is one commonality among these individuals—they all come because they are seeking excellence. And I love that. They are seeking truth and integrity and science and skills, and they know to come to the Spinning program to find it.

What kinds of things do you hear people say during Training?
Often I will hear students say that they feel so empowered to begin their Spinning teaching journey because they feel so confident with the tools they’ve been given in the Training. There is nothing more rewarding!

Once a Spinning® instructor is certified, what supports them in developing their teaching skills?
The resources are vast. Our continuing education program is huge and designed to provide instructors with a comprehensive study of all aspects of being an indoor cycling coach—whether through our live trainings, online courses, home studies, or special events and conferences. In addition, the website and newsletters provide a constant stream of information from class design, music selection, physiology, biomechanics and coaching skills, just to mention a few. But aside from the educational tools, I believe the biggest support system comes from the sense of community. The network of certified instructors, Master Instructors, students and other enthusiasts is very compelling. This network nurtures a sharing of ideas and encourages professional dialogues and debates, but most of all it allows everyone a platform to share their story. Everyone has a story to tell, and this is the human element that is so powerful in the Spinning program.

What is a typical career path for a Certified Spinning® Instructor?
Everyone pursues something different— there really is no standard direction that an instructor takes. While many intend on finding part-time work teaching classes, there are those that decide to make a life change and transition from another occupation to a full-time career in the fitness industry. For those already in the fitness industry, the Spinning program adds to their credentials and increases their marketability. We also see students who desire to open their own businesses and want to offer the Spinning program so they need to educate themselves on the program. What is standard, however, is that everyone expresses the same desire to help others and transform lives.

As the Team Manager of Spinning Master Instructors, tell us about the caliber of Spinning MIs that lead Spinning® Orientations.
The global Spinning Master Instructor Team is simply outstanding. While each member is distinguished and impressive with their own array of talents and expertise, there is one most noteworthy attribute manifested in all, and that is their unyielding and relentless discipline in working as a unified team to change the world, one ride at a time. It is an incredible bounty for me to work with such like-minded individuals. It is simply a bonus that among the team we have PhDs, Ironman athletes, business owners, elite cyclists holding national and international titles, university professors, world class triathletes, exercise physiologists, sports therapists, nutritionists, marathon runners, attorneys, yoga professionals, personal trainers and group fitness instructors, and the list goes on. It is simply an amazing group of industry experts whose aim is to deliver excellence beyond measure.
