Pilates Houston Association is a newly formed professional organization
for Pilates and other mind-body teachers and students. Our goal is to
transform our city thorugh healing movement, and inform and educate the
public. We plan on doing outreach and professional development. The
dream was to bring together Pilates teachers from across the city and
across different certifications, and find the things that we have in
common, develop relationships and impact the community. We are off to a
great start: we have about 20 members, a board and our first events are
up and running. We are volunteering to teach at a women's transitional
living center sponsored by The Salvation Army. It so far has been a
great success: each week about 20 women of all ages, races and walks of
life who for one reason or another found themselves without a home are
joining in the class. They are so much fun, no competition or
pretension, they "just want to feel their abs." We are also planning
our first city wide workshop, calling on some of our own experienced
teachers in the city to teach. We are looking forward to that in
September. We were inspired by the community goals of the PMA, and
encourage you to think about starting your own association in your city!
