    springs on older Peak reformer

I recently purchased an older Peak Pilates reformer. It has four equal strength strings which are all the same. No red, blue, yellow or green options. Could someone tell me if this is consistent with the newer Peak reformers? I know equal strength strings were the original way. If I were to replace the springs for newer ones, what should I be looking for? And will the current springs Peak sells fit an older reformer model Thank you

At this point, we have the standard 4 spring set which consists of 1 light, 2 medium and 1 red spring. Our current springs should fit okay on an older unit unless it is very old - say more than 10 years or so.

Our current springs should fit fine on your older Peak Pilates reformer.  As the previous reply answered, our current 4 spring "standard" set is 1 yellow (light), 2 medium (blue) and 1 heavy (red).  We find this gives you a good cross-section of tension to choose from, however, you can order whatever combination of tension you prefer.   If the older reformer has 4 springs of all the same tension they are most likely Medium.  In the past whenever a customer requested all of the same tension that was our standard set-up.

Re: springs on older Peak reformer

Since each reformer is customed made for the purchaser it's hard to have a "standard" spring system and each piece also has it's own personality so the spring load can and will feel different on each.  Older units and all Gratz had only one spring tension which tends to be medium.  For versatility purposes the Pilates industry created different tension springs, red (heavy), yellow (medium), blue (light), green (xlight) which gives the trainer more choices to make a student successful at any given exercise.  If you are planning on replacing your springs I believe the new industry standard is 2 yellow, 1 blue and 1 red OR 2 blue, 1 yellow and 1 red.  In my personal experience it depends on the wheel drag.  If the wheels are soft with a heavy drag you need lighter springs, if they're hard with light drag you may need heavier springs.  If you don't know what you have for wheels I'd go for 2 yellow, 1 blue and 1 red.
